June 4, 2014 ~ Nancy Ota ~ TRUNK SHOW
Nancy shared over 30 quilts, wall hangings, garments and bags that she has made since becoming a quilter in 1988.  Many have been published in books and magazines and have been finalists and won ribbons in major shows in Paducah, Houston, Santa Clara, Ontario and Japan.  In April, 2006 her wall hanging "Infinity" won Best Wall Hanging from the American Quilters Society and is now owned by the Museum ofAmerican Quilters Society in Paducah, Kentucky.  She brought with her a near duplicate of that quilt.  She enjoys sewing commercial cottons, hand dyed cottons, and silks from neckties and kimono.....
May 7, 2014 ~ Our speaker was Russell Conte, guild member and owner of our local quilting emporium, the “Sewing Arts Center”. ~ Russell discussed “The State of the Art”. In the debate among quilters about the definitions and relevance of contemporary, modern, and traditional styles of quilting we heard from an entrepreneur, who has turned his passion for the sewing arts into his livelihood.
