PLACE MATS FOR MEALS ON WHEELS - INSTRUCTIONS

One Piece Place Mats:

Yardage Requirements (4 Mats)

1 yd (or four fat quarters) for mat fronts
1 yard (or four fat quarters) for mat backs
1 yard batting of fleece (or four 13 1/2" X 17 1/2" pieces)

1. Cut all fabric to 13 1/2" X 17 1/2"

2. Cut all batting to 13 1/2" X 17 1/2"

3. Place batting on flat surface

4. Taking care to align edges, place backing fabric on top of batting, face up.

5. Still aligning all edges, place front fabric on top of batting and backing , face down.

6. If you wish to have angled corners on your place mat, measure in 2 1/2" from each corner and mark with marking pen or pencil. Carefully cut the corners off using the marks as guides.

7. Now, using a 1/4 " seam allowance, stitch all the way around the edge of your place mat sandwich leaving an opening about 3 inches.

8. Turn your place mat inside out and press.

9. Top stitch around the edge using coordinating thread.

10. Stitch an "X across the center or guilt as you wish.

 

Disappearing 9 Patch Place Mat instructions:

1. You will need 27 square patches of various colors to make two placemats.

Twenty seven 5” square patches will make two placemats, 18” by 12”.18" by 12".

Twenty seven 5 1/2" square patches will make two placemats, 20 1/4" by 13 1/12"

2. Sew the 27 patches into 3 nine-patches, and cut each one into 4 blocks as described in the Disappearing Nine Patch directions. This will yield 12 blocks.

3. Arrange and sew these blocks into two rows of three. This will give you the top of your placemats.

4. Complete the placemats as described for the Placemats for Meals on Wheels above.

5. Quilt in the ditch around the blocks.
